About the Ngadju Dancers
The Ngadju Dancers of the Norseman Ngadju people, are a traditional dance group who have been together for 12 years. The Ngadju Dancers are the first and only traditional dance group from the Norseman, Esperance, and surrounding southern Goldfields region (of Western Australia) to perform in public.
The history of the Ngadju Dancers
The group’s first public performance was in 1996, at the Midland Gate shopping centre, Perth WA. The core dance group consists of 6-8 adult dancers. The dancers, as individuals, have many years of experience, for they have inherited many of their song and dance techniques from their Ngadju elders. For local Goldfields performances, we have an additional 20 student dancers that join the main group, that are aged between 1-16 years.
The Ngadju Dancers perform at various functions and opening ceremonies. In 2006, we participated in the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, which had a global audience of 1.2 billion people. Lion Ore Resources (Johnston Lake Operations) fully sponsored us for this event.
"... Their performance is an absolute delight. It has a unique, captivating and down to earth integrity, James Schulz the leader of the troupe has a genuine warmth, charisma and humour.
We have been fortunate enough to represent them in schools since the start of 2007 and also secured a 3 day booking for them at the Royal Perth Show...." Nexus Arts, Melbourne
